PB3: WP3 Prep

Part 1: Reflect on your powerpoint presentation. When reading everyones feedback, I found out a lot of different ways that I can improve my ACURA project. A lot of the feedback said that I should have focused on one specific drug to get down to the smallest nesting doll and I agree completely. I should not have stated the other "heavy drugs" that could also apply to this, but rather just focus on one drug, like Heroin. I definitely know that, for next time, I should practice my presentation more so that I feel more confident in what I am saying and then I will not use filler words such as "like". Something that someone said in the feedback that really caught my attention, was thinking about how the poverty of people could relate to the drug addiction. This interested me because I never really thought about how different poverty levels could be effected differently with drug addiction and how they are influenced. Part 2: Updated version of my research question. H...

Elevator Pitch

How Drugs Affect the Mind in Psychology. Fancy seeing you here, Laura! I do not think you know of me yet, but my name is Juliet Ferro and I am very interested in studying how drugs affect the minds of the youth. I have done some research on you and your studies and came to find that you have some similar interests as me, so I would like to learn more about your knowledge. I'm interested in how the youth first came to using drugs, how it turns into them possibly injecting Heroin, what changes happen to their physical and mental state, and how Psychologists know what to say or how to support an addict to help them. I saw you have written two books on some similar concepts, so I would love to hear more about how you studied these findings. I would also like to know your opinion on how fast the epidemic is increasing and your opinion about some things that have come into place recently, like safe injection places. I have a unique view on addicts and I would love to see if some o...

Youtube Vdeos: Elevator Pitch

Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0GOh3nGlik In this elevator pitch, I think it was a strength that he asked a question at the very beginning of his speech. He stated his opinions and back them up with facts about how this has worked before. He also used a wide variety of vocabulary. I Did not like that he talked more about himself and how he was right, more than what he was actually trying to state.                                            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNpuQHY2hDE He reminded the person he was talking to, what exactly he was going to be talking about. He then "hyped up" what he was about to be talking about, without stating everything at once. I liked that he kept telling the guy how much better it could be and how he has never done a customer wrong, it...

PB2B: Examining the Rhetorical Features of Scholarly Articles.

The two scholarly journal articles that I have committed to are "Trait Mindfulness and Progression to Injection Use in Youth With Opioid Addiction" and "Psychological and social sequelae of cannabis and other illicit drug use by young people: a systematic review of longitudinal, general population studies". I stuck with these two articles, because the first one talks about the progression of the epidemic and it also is strictly talking about the youth injecting opioids. Those two factors are both something I mainly wanted to focus my study on. In the second article, they talk more about the pyschological state of what drugs can do to the mind and it really interests me to learn more on how an addict thinks the way they think when using the drug. Both of these pieces, are different in their own ways because one is talking about the progression side of injection while the other talks more about the mindset. In both of these articles, the researchers both performed st...

PB2A: Exploring Your Existing Interests and Locating Scholarly Journal Articles

I am majoring in Secondary English Education, but I have always had an interest in Psychology and learning more about what someone has todo to become a Psychologist. I have always been really intrigued by the way a Psychologist views the mind and how they have the capability to understand and help many different types of problems that people are dealing with. A Penn State Abington researcher that I found interest in is Laura Orrico. As I was reading about her interests and research, I found out that she is very in to the concept of studying the way people develop stability under conditions of uncertainty and change. As I kept reading, she also mentioned that over the past four years of ethnographic fieldwork she has studied topics such as: Trust development, knowledge production, community building and how people intersect with daily experiences, homelessness, racial diversity, community policing, and drug and alcohol dependency( mailto:%20laura.orrico@psu.edu  ). She strictly focu...
